Solar Suburb

Inspired by an electrical engineer's common-sense solutions to energy independence.

Imagine tomorrow

Brought to life in virtual reality for a more immersive experience, but built to run on regular desktops as well for accessibility. As you walk down Breezeway Lane, discover how many solar panels and batteries each house needs. This simulation builds awareness of solar power's challenges and opportunities. Once you've tuned each house's needs, check out the local algae farm. Turning methane from wastewater and surplus power from the neighborhood solar panels into biofuel and chicken feed, this sustainable fuel station provides for the community instead of polluting it.

Seeing is believing

Too good to be true?

While the charts and data in the Breezeway Lane simulation are simplified, all data is based on successful real-world experiments. More complex data can be added into this modular system, allowing for a more accurate prediction of the challenges involved with building a sustainable community.

Thermal Transfer

Visualize and estimate three dimensional heat flux through solid objects.

Fully modular system with easily editable scale, resolution, and material properties.

Export results as flat text, or convert into a curve for easy reference in other simulations.

Hotfoot

A walkability analysis tool that visually distinguishes areas with high foot traffic in a simulated environment.

See the flow

As the simulated crowd moves, it's easy to see that pedestrians more frequently choose to follow along the sidewalk than cross at this intersection.

Unobtrusive analysis

Drag the tool to where you need it in the virtual world, then choose if you want to see the data drawn on the ground, in your HUD, or both.

Export the results

Take your data to where you need it. Output the result of your tests as a simple greyscale image, or save out the colorized version for additional clarity.
